If you’ve been using the Smush.it plugin on your site to optimize your images, you’re now seeing the notice that Yahoo smushing this service. Here’s the notice at the top of my site:
Yahoo appears to be either discontinuing or not supporting their free Smush.it service – bah!
So, WPMU DEV is looking into how we can provide a free service to you that replaces this… but it’s going to take some time.
We will update the plugin as soon as we have it in place. Thanks, WPMU DEV
So now you’re looking for a free alternative. Why not try EWWW Image Optimizer? I recently used it on a site with a slider that originally had images around the size of 1.15MB EACH. I got my load time down from 11 seconds to 7 seconds. That’s a nice reduction without changing the file size. Of course, I also changed the file size, afterwards, but that was great proof that this plugin works.
Have you used EWWW or another plugin instead of Smush.it? I’d love to hear your experience.

Hey Guys, Above all information is very helpful for us ,
But I suggest one more powerful image optimizer plugin which is enables to open the page much faster by compressing the image and reduce it drastically maintaining its high quality, its very promising,
Here it is: https://wordpress.org/plugins/way2enjoy-compress-images/
