Ever want to replace that WordPress featured image with a video instead? The VideographyWP plugin let’s you do just that! You’ll need to be using YouTube videos. Once you install it, you will need a YouTube API, but there are easy to follow instructions on how to do that.
Once your API is set up, when you want to set up a post where the video is featured instead of an image, you will need to follow three extra steps.
1) Under the new Videography section on the sidebar on the backend (that’s under the category and featured image section on the right of your post editor), put the link to the video (In this screenshot, I’ve already added it. Before you add it, it will give you and empty box to put it in.)
2) Click the “Query Video” button.
3) Once the video is attached to the post, you’ll need to scroll down to the Videoography WP section under the post editor. If you have other plugins, like Yoast SEO, you’ll have to scroll down under that. Once you find this section, under the Video embed position, use the dropdown to select “replace featured image”.
That’s it! Now people can click on your videos and play them right from your blog page!
*One note, when I tried to use this plugin on a home page with four smaller posts excerpts, as you can see in the picture, the videos came in at full height and caused a spacing problem. I fixed this by adding a max-height to the div. This worked for me. Hopefully it will work if you have a similar problem! Also, I want to mention that the plugin author responded very quickly to my question. Excellent support. Good luck!
