A lot of people are getting these notices in their email. If you’re using WooCommerce with Paypal integration, there is no need to worry about WooCommerce. However, you should check with your hosting provider to make sure that they are up to date as well.
Mike Jolley, one of the plugin authors, posted this notice:
“The WooCommerce PayPal Standard Gateway itself requires no changes. You should however check that your hosting provider supports the new certificates.”

Siteground hosting is ready for the upgrade, so if you have them, no worries for you. I have a customer with GoDaddy. They said that if you have a new SSL, you are fine, but if you’ve had it for a while, you’ll need to call them and have them “re-key” it to SHA-2.
As always, probably a good idea to do a test once they change over to make sure, but for now, no need to worry about Woo. Just call your hosting provider and make sure both the hosting and the SSL certificate is good to go.
Is your host ready? I’d love to hear from you in the comments section.

Hi, I am a small business owner that runs a simple shopping cart site. I use woocommerce and recently received this email. My understanding was that minimal information, name, shipping address, was sent to Paypal through the button and that Paypal dealt with all the security. I never got an SSL certificate for the site. Does this new upgrade mean I have to get one? Can anyone please explain what’s going on?!

I’m assuming that paypal is taking the customer off your site then to complete the transaction? If so, you shouldn’t have any problem. Like I said, Woo has already been updated. Again, I do recommend you test once the change takes place on Sept 30 and keep your eye open for any problems, but you should have nothing to worry about as long as all your plugins are up to date.
