Although your client might not know what they are called – or really even consider them when designing a website, they are one of those details that gives a website a complete, professional finished look.
In the old days, all that was needed was a 16×16 .ico file and you were good to go. Today, with retina displays, desktop icons, and mobile platforms, you need quite a bit more.
I’ve found a little gem of a site that helps you sort through the confusion of everything you need. It’s http://realfavicongenerator.net/ Simply upload your image and it will do the work for you. If you think you are fine doing it the old way, please check out this little quiz to see how much you really know: http://css-tricks.com/favicon-quiz/
